First Impressions of the Chevrolet Camaro for 2000

A high point in the convertible market is the Chevrolet Camaro. In 2000 Chevrolet released an upgraded version of the Camaro with three versions: Z28 SS and Base. Sales for the Camaro, especially the Camaro Z28, were brisk during 2000 and 2001. The improved reliability and the sporty styling were responsible for the sales boost.
Under the Hood
Standard equipment in the Camaro for 1999 and 2000 includes the 5.7 liter engine by General Motors, weighing in at 8 cylinders and sixteen valves. A 4-speed Automatic Transmission puts the power of the Chevrolet engine to the pavement. This is a long-standing favorite for buyers in the Convertible arena.
Steering control is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The Camaro comes equipped with power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. The car uses coil front springs and coil in the rear.
Vehicle Statistics
The dimensions of the Camaro Z28 are 74.10 inches wide by 193.50 inches long. It sits 51.20 inches off the ground. It seats a standard four passengers, with 2 doors. The wheelbase of 101.10 allows for extra leg room for the rear passengers.
The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $21,615 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $19,778. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Convertible.
Fuel Efficiency
The fuel system for the 2000 Camaro is a SFI design, using gasoline fuel. The fuel flow is controlled by a electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The fuel capacity of the fuel tank is 16.80 gallons.
The Camaro Z28 received a miles-per-gallon rating of 17 - 18 in-city driving and 25 - 27 when it came to highway driving. Being a gas-powered non-hybrid car, this was exceptional.
We Think...
The 2000 model year was telling year for the Chevrolet Camaro. The introduction of several trim levels (along with the Z28 version) meant that buyers could find the version that best suited their needs.
