Our Review of the 2000 Mazda Miata LS

Mazda Miata

The 2000 Miata is an important vehicle to Mazda for the convertible market segment. The LS is a member of a series of three trim levels for the Miata which include Base, LS, and SE. The two-door car with its rear-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for Mazda. There is strong competition from vehicles from Nissan.

Performance

The Miata LS is equipped with a Mazda 1.8 liter four-cylinder engine that utilizes 16 valves. The engine is mated to a Aisin Warner 4-speed Transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Mazda.

For the 2000 Miata, the fuel delivery system is a electronic MPI, using gasoline for fuel. A fuel-injected MFI configuration. The gas tank holds 16.90 gallons.

The Miata uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The car uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.

Miata LS Statistics

The dimensions of the Miata LS are 69.30 inches wide by 187.40 inches long. It sits a comfortable 55.10 inches off the ground. It seats a standard five passengers, with 2 doors. The wheelbase of 105.10 allows for limited leg room for the backseat passengers.

The listed retail price in 2000 (MSRP) was $20,715, with an invoice cost of $18,890. This price is slightly higher than the industry average price for a two-door Convertible.

A powertrain warranty is provided (50,000 miles/36 months), and a 50,000 mile, 36 month guarantee also comes with the Mazda Miata.

Fuel Efficiency

The Miata LS received a miles-per-gallon rating of twenty two in-city driving and twenty eight when it came to long-distance. Being a gas-powered non-green car, this was subpar.

Conclusion

The 2000 model year was unsuccessful for the Mazda Miata. The introduction of several trim levels (along with the LS version) meant that buyers had several options to choose from..
