Insight Into the Ford Mustang for 2004

Ford Mustang

The 2004 Mustang is an important vehicle to Ford for the coupe market segment. The SVT Cobra is a member of a series of four trim levels for the Mustang which include Base, GT, Mach I, and SVT Cobra. The two-door car with its rear-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for Ford. There is strong competition from vehicles from Infiniti.

The Mustang SVT Cobra is equipped with a Ford 4.6 liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 32 valves. The engine is mated to a Tremec 6-speed Transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Ford.

Steering control is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The Mustang comes equipped with power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. The car uses coil front springs and coil in the rear.

The dimensions of the Mustang SVT Cobra are 73.10 inches wide by 183.20 inches long. It sits 53.20 inches off the ground. It seats a standard four passengers, with 2 doors. The wheelbase of 101.30 allows for extra leg room for the rear passengers.

The listed retail price in 2004 (MSRP) was $28,015, with a dealer invoice cost of $25,583. This price is in line with the industry average price for a two-door Coupe.

Fuel Efficiency

The fuel system for the 2004 Mustang is a SFI system, running on gasoline . The fuel is regulated by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design.

The Mustang SVT Cobra received a miles-per-gallon rating of 17 - 18 in-city driving and 23 - 25 when it came to highway driving. Being a gas-powered non-hybrid car, this was within normal parameters.

What We Think of the Ford Mustang

The 2003 model began the promise of the Ford Mustang. The 2004 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers Ford hopes that the Mustang SVT Cobra will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
