The Chevrolet Camaro Base for 2000: Improving on 1999

Chevrolet Camaro

The 2000 Chevrolet Camaro Base was introduced to compete in the convertible market. The Base is a member of a series of three trim levels for the Camaro which include Z28 SS and Base. The two-door car with its rear-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for Chevrolet. There is strong competition from vehicles from Lexus.

Chevrolet Camaro Engine Specs

Chevrolet Camaro Engine Specs: The Camaro Base comes outfitted with a Buick 3.8 liter, 6-cylinder motor that uses 12 valves. The engine, manufactured by General Motors, is teamed up with a General Motors 4-speed transmission. This arrangement has demonstrated to be an effective style for Chevrolet.

The 2000 Camaro's traditional fuel system runs on gas. The fuel is regulated electronically, with a fuel-injected multi-port fuel injection style of design. The fuel tank holds 16.80 gallons.

The Camaro uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The car uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.

Vehicle Statistics

The Camaro is 193.50 inches long, 74.10 inches wide, and 51.20 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 101.10 inches. It is able to seat 4 comfortably.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $21,615 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $19,778. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Convertible.

The standard warranty period for the Camaro is 36 months, or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is standard in the convertible market.

Fuel Efficiency

The 2000 Camaro gets 25 - 27 miles/gallon on the highway and only 17 - 18 in the city. This is exceptional for a convertible car.

We Think...

There are several reasons why the Chevrolet Camaro Base sold well in 2000. Mainly the increase in availability and a marked improvement in quality meant the buying public was more apt to choose a Chevrolet, specifically a Camaro.
