A Better 1997's Model: The Chevrolet Monte Carlo for 1998

Chevrolet Monte Carlo

The Chevrolet Monte Carlo is a 2-door car available at your Chevrolet dealer. The Monte Carlo came in two configurations: Z34 and LS. The Z34 configuration is powered by the 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine, which makes 29 highway miles and 20 city. The Monte Carlo competes in the Coupe market segment, in direct competition with Honda.

Stop and Go

The Monte Carlo Z34 is equipped with a General Motors 3.8 liter six-cylinder engine that utilizes 12 valves. The Buick engine is mated to a General Motors 4-speed Transaxle. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Chevrolet.

Steering control is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The Monte Carlo comes equipped with power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are drum. The car uses coil front springs and coil in the rear.

Statistics

The Monte Carlo is 200.70 inches long, 72.50 inches wide, and 53.80 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 107.50 inches. It is able to seat 6 comfortably.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $17,945 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $16,420. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Coupe.

Fuel Efficiency

The fuel system for the 1998 Monte Carlo is a traditional SFI, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 16.60 gallons.

The Monte Carlo Z34 received a miles-per-gallon rating of twenty in-city driving and twenty nine when it came to highway driving. Being a gas-powered non-hybrid car, this was within normal parameters.

What We Think of the Chevrolet Monte Carlo

The 1998 model year was very successful for the Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The introduction of several trim levels (along with the Z34 version) meant that buyers could find the version that best suited their needs.
